Portrait of a Lady on Fire
Portrait de la jeune fille en feu
France, 1760. Marianne has been commissioned to paint the portrait of Lady Héloïse for a distant admirer; however, as the young woman has no intention of being married off, her mother introduces the painter to Héloïse as her walking companion.
As they spend time together during the day, Marianne gazes upon Lady Héloïse to memorise her traits and secretly paints her portrait at night. A strong attraction soon grows between them as they spend more and more time in each other’s company.
The latest outstanding work by Céline Sciamma (Girlhood, Tomboy) confirms the French director as a prominent storyteller in contemporary cinema.
