The latest feature by Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life) is a compelling historical drama based on real events. Set against the majestic backdrop of the Austrian Alps, the film is centred around the life of Franz Jägerstätter, a peasant farmer and pious Catholic who lived with his beloved wife and children in the alpine village of St. Radegund. As the war broke out across Europe and the Nazi ideology begun to spread, Jägerstätter refused to swear loyalty and fight for the Third Reich. Condemned to death for treason, he was imprisoned in Linz and then in Berlin, where the only thing to keep him alive were his faith and the thought of his wife and children.
